Witch Hat Atelier (Tongari Bōshi no Atorie) is a Japanese fantasy manga series written and illustrated by Kamome Shirahama. The series debuted in Monthly Morning Two, a seinen manga magazine published by Kodansha, on July 22, 2016, and has been compiled into 13 tankōbon volumes as of February 22, 2024. The story follows Coco, a young girl who dreams of becoming a witch in a world where only those born with magical abilities can practice magic. Her life changes when she discovers that magic can be performed by drawing specific runes, taking her on a journey filled with wonder and challenges.
Kamome Shirahama, born May 7, is a Japanese manga artist and illustrator renowned for her intricate art style, which blends traditional and modern elements. A graduate of the Tokyo University of the Arts design program, Shirahama draws inspiration from various sources, including Art Nouveau and Art Deco, and artists like Alphonse Mucha and Mœbius. She has also cited literary works such as The Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter, which influenced her storytelling.
Before creating Witch Hat Atelier, Shirahama worked on several notable projects. Her debut work, Watashi no Kuro-chan, was published in 2011.
